We're working closely with Rwandan governments, using our meteorological expertise to help protect lives out there.
As well as our Exeter HQ, we’ve another multi-million pound operational centre in Aberdeen, Scotland. As well as many, many remote locations right across the country (take a look at our map to find out more). But we’re not confined to the UK. Far from it. With an ever-growing international presence, we can offer you the opportunity to work in some incredible and unexpected locations. Including Africa, the South Atlantic, even the Antarctic. It’s really up to you how far you go when you work with the Met Office.
Many of our world-leading products and services were visualised and created in our multi-million pound, purpose-built Exeter HQ. It’s just off the M5 motorway and surrounded by East Devon’s glorious countryside. Everything’s here. Including some of the most advanced technology and supercomputers in the world. It’s also home to the Met Office College, one of the most respected colleges in the world, where we deliver quality meteorological and climate change training. When you’re not busy working or learning, there’s much to enjoy on site. We’ve a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus two coffee shops, a shop and a cash machine. And if you don’t fancy driving in, many regular buses service our headquarters.
Devon’s regularly voted England’s best county - no great surprise when you consider the variety that it has to offer. Exeter is the beating heart of Devon and we’re proud to call it home. It’s a city for all, in all sorts of different ways. Love eating out? Everyone’s catered for. We’ve big name chefs, intimate brasseries and award-winning places to eat and drink al-fresco. Bit of a shopaholic? There’s much to tempt you here, from big flagship high street names to independent boutiques. And while Exeter’s a modern, vibrant city, there’s heritage and history by the streetload, with an incredible story on virtually every corner.
Fascinating history and jaw-dropping natural beauty, adrenalin rushes and peaceful moments, excitement, variety and much, much more – it’s all waiting for you in Devon. And as the only county with two coastlines, you’re never far from one of its 33 beaches. Whether you’re a book-on-the-beach person or a surf’s up sea lover, a bike-ride-in-the-countryside person or a picturesque Sunday walk and afternoon tea lover, you’ll find your perfect spot in this county. For us, and our people, it’s an incredible and inspiring place to live and work, a county where work/life balance can be a day-to-day reality not an unrealistic paper dream.
Work hard, play hard. In our Exeter headquarters, you’re free to use our fully equipped gym and fitness suite. If you’re based in one of our other sites, many customers’ offer full use of their sports and social amenities. You can also join the Met Office Sports and Social Association which offers an exciting range of recreational activities throughout the year.
Our Exeter HQ is home to the world-renowned National Meteorological Library. It’s an incredible resource, one of the largest and most comprehensive meteorological libraries in the world. From research journals and the latest academic papers, to some of the most important meteorological documents ever published, it’s all here. The library is open to both Met Office employees and members of the public.
