Estates Surveyor

We’re looking for an Estates Surveyor to help us make a difference to our planet.

As our Estates Surveyor, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.

Our opportunity is full time, 37 hours per week, but we would also consider applicants wishing to work a minimum of 30 hours per week. Our people are at the heart of what we do and we'll do our best to agree a working pattern that works for everyone.

Your world of expertise

Joining our Property Management team, you'll play a key role in managing a diverse portfolio of around 500 properties, including manned and unmanned sites around the UK and overseas.

You'll implement and develop our property portfolio strategy to ensure our estate supports operational capabilities and organisational needs. You will ensure compliance and business needs are met, with responsibilities in the day to day management of leases, landlords and business rates, as well as disposing of properties and identifying new solutions to accommodate our needs.

Your key duties:

• Estate Strategy: understand strategic business drivers and contribute to development of strategic asset management plans and estates strategy.
• Property Portfolio Management: implement estate portfolio strategy, maximising its performance to ensure the estate is managed in accordance with required compliance standards, including Government Functional Standards. Provide property professional expertise on all major estates initiatives,including direction to senior leaders and stakeholders.
• Acquisitions and Disposals: lead on identification, appraisal, acquisition and disposal of sites, including obtaining investment approval and maintaining reputation as source of property expertise with clients and colleagues.
• Property Data Management: in depth knowledge of property data management systems (e.g. Propman or InSite) and Government Data Standards. Lead on Cabinet Office estates data commissions e.g. State of the Estate (SOFTE).
• Cost Management: support the preparation and analysis of estate portfolio cost information for budget purposes.
• Stakeholder Engagement: build partnerships and maintain good relations with key internal and external stakeholders and professional advisors.
• Planning and Development: advise on feasibility of planning permission and impact of planning policy in support of business and Met Office Safeguarding.

As our Estates Surveyor, your total reward package will be up to £60,268 annually, which includes:

• £43,081 base pay.
• An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 28.97%.
• Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave.

Essential Criteria, skills and experience:

1. Professional membership of RICS, AssocRICS or working towards professional qualification or equivalent. (We're experts by nature, always learning and developing to do things better)
2. Property Expertise: Experience in a property management environment, dealing with complex matters and owning your decisions at the right level. Able to demonstrate autonomy within your profession and are broadening your skills in other property areas. (We Keep Evolving)
3. Customer and Client Service: Able to take time to investigate, understand and analyse the needs of the client to best inform decisions.
4. Stakeholder Engagement: Able to communicate technical and complex issues to a range of stakeholders, particularly where there are risks to delivery. (We're Better Together)
5. Analytical Decision Making: Able to take large and complex data sets and distill meaningful insight, that can be used to shape strategic and operational decisions. (We Live and Breathe It)
6. Commercial Acumen: Work in partnership with colleagues, suppliers and third-party organisations to maximise operational and financial performance to offer best value for money.
